Ambulatory Surgical Coder

Unity seeks an Ambulatory Surgical Coder to join our team at UNITY SURGICAL CENTER, a practice division of Unity Healthcare.

Our ideal Surgical Coder will assign CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes to ambulatory surgical center cases, as well as enter the charges into the practice management software. Candidates should have a strong understanding of applicable coding guidelines, CCI edits, medical record documentation requirements, as well as medical billing and payer policies.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Coding Certification (CCS-P, CCS, CPC, RHIT or RHIA)
  • 2 years coding experience with outpatient facility or ambulatory surgery
  • Medial record and billing knowledge
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel)
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • High School diploma or equivalent and certification in sterile processing and distribution

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE

  • Keep record of items that have been cleaned and sterilized
  • Assist with policy and procedure development and Adheres to established infection control and organizational standards.
  • Meticulous examination of instruments and equipment to ensure they are clean
  • Manual cleaning of instruments and equipment to remove contaminates
  • Operation and maintenance of decontamination equipment
  • Monitor and operate sterilization equipment such as an autoclave
  • Test and report any issues or problems with sterilizing equipment
  • Assemble and sterilize instrument trays
  • Organize, store and keep record of sterile supplies
  • Inventory control of sterilization supplies including reordering and checking expiration dates

Certified Surgical Technologist

  • Assists with sponge, needle, and other supply counts to track materials used in surgery

Endoscopy – Certified Surgical Technologist

  • May assist in obtaining and labeling of specimens
